This was my first Maternity Shoot. Did it for a friend of mine. Not a client. Was looking for some C&C as I will eventually like to be able to do this for real clients.

Hi, was it a relaxed candid style shoot or did you stage this pose?

I can see that you probably wanted to emphasise the tum but I feel personally that to see all of mummy & daddy would have been better.
Also the little boy looks like he has been pencil drawn onto the photo he looks that soft!
You could try converting it to b&w and boosting the contrast.
I think the pose is a good idea but you have not presented the image in as good a way as it maybe could have been.

Looks like your new, welcome to dpnow, nothing like jumping in at the deep end for some critique

It was a relaxed candid shot. I was trying to pose the mom and dad when the little boy ran up and hugged daddies leg... the mom and dad immediately looked down at him and started telling him Nooooo get out of the way ... so and so... I thought it was great so I snapped the shot.... I do have the mom and dad in the shot but I cropped them out because they were looking at the boy telling him to go away.... LOL!... The boy is soft because It was window lighting with the Apeture Priority set to 5.6 and it was litterally a split second that he ran up, was told to go away and left LOL... so I think it was because of his movement.

I quite like this. The expression on the little boys face and the direction he is looking make a good image. The softness of the image seems to fit the bill. I don't think all images need to be pin sharp as in this case it adds to the mood. To improve the shot I would suggest the crop is a little too close to the little boy. Well done anyway for putting your work up for critique. I'm also new here and not half as brave as you.

one problem, everyone is in denim and white except junior. the red shirt detracts from the main subject. (for those of you who kindly read my blog; repeat after me, hot colors project)
