  • OK...be Kind....

This is my first attempt at this...so please be kind...this was of the first shots with the new Sony a350 shot at 18mm from the window of my car....let me know what you think...I have not been able to shoot in a month...I just had my right foot amputated but am anxious to learn this camera and digital photography more in depth.

I hope I did this right...be patient with a newbie if not...

    Thanks, Aaron

Firstly, can I urge you to work out how to put the full size image on the page rather than a thumbnail. This is because clicking on the thumbnail forces us to navigate away from the forum page, which is not ideal.

Regarding the photo, I feel you have a nice composition here where you are using the sky in preference to the foreground. Its interesting though that you chose the portrait format.

My main concern in the rather green colour cast, and I wonder if this is something you have done in your software, or is this the result straight out of the camera?

      Re: OK...be Kind....

I agree with what Stephen has already said. It's a very pleasant Summer scene.

I may be wrong here but I suspect the colours might be improved by reducing the yellows slightly. Not sure but worth trying some slight tweaks of the bue and yellow colour levels.

As for posting the image in the thread - there's a very quick and simple way of doing it if you go the 'My Pics' link immediately below the emoticon list. Click on 'Open' then choose Original Image and Inline from the drop down menus - click on the picture you want to post in the thread and that'll select and post the original (large) sized image in the thread at the p[lace where your mouse cursor is sited within the posting window.

There's also a user test board HERE if you want to experiment with anything. feel free to start a thread and try things out in there until you get used to the way things work.

      Hope that helps.

        Re: OK...be Kind....

I chose this composition because to the left of the frame is a not so attractive house and I wanted less foreground...I also shot a zoom of just the building and trees in the background with no sky...my original thought was to frame the two of these shots and have them hung beside one another in my home...the zoom shot is in Landscape...I am still practicing with the software....so I will try to reduce the yellow a bit...I think it is a very bright, saturated shot though....Oh and I will try to figure out the insertion of the next photo and use the Landscaped Zoom shot....Thanks to both of you for the help...

          Re: OK...be Kind....

Well firstly, sorry to hear about you foot Aaaron.

I love the photo, I really like the composition, but agree whole heartidly with what has been said regarding the colour cast.

I hope you dont mind, but I very quickly tweaked the levels using photoshop to demonstrate. (please let me know if you object to me doing this, and I will remove it immediately)

I have also added your picture. (go to the gallery, select the picture, then copy the code)

              Re: OK...be Kind....

I think technically an ok picture but lacks interest, its an oldish shed surrounded by green with a not so interesting blue sky!
I had an a100 which was a great camera but poor build and feel let it down, I hope they have improved for you as a 350 owner.
              cheers
              Ash.

Jasc Paintshop Pro can be quite a good program! I have both Paintshop & Photoshop & regularly interchange usage, as each has its own merit! Like many programs, there is quite a steep learning curve which takes patience & lots of practice! However, each step learned is very rewarding! Look forward to seeing more of your pics!
