    Dear All,

A selection of pictures from my trip to New York. It was a family holiday and I realised within hours that this was not going to be anything like as productive in terms of photography as my trips alone to London.

New York is so busy that a second of letting go of a 5yr old's hand could be a huge mistake. So settled to take what I could when I could. Maybe one day I will be able to afford to go there just for photography. Just won't tell the missus

As always comments and critique welcomed.

The rest can be found here.

    Best Regards

    Josh

Great stuff Josh, picture 2 is my fave, like the inclusion of the single person, finishes off the picture

Josh, again these are nice pictures and you did quite well to get them considering the circumstances. Esp like the second one, its certainly the most artistic of the three. In some ways I thing the family may have been some use to you with the the ones of Grand Central and the Underground. Had you been by yourself and using your 5D you could have easily have had a security guard after you. When I was there in '04 they were still very twitchy about photography in such places and the Subway in particular where it was banned. I read recently that Scott Kelby was at Grand Central on a shoot and he had to get permission.

The shot of Times Square is the typical colourful example of the place, always somewhere full of vibrancy and life. You did well to get a nice sharp picture

        Hi Josh -

Thanks for the treat. I like all of them and if I had to choose in which order it would be as shown. Nice to see the omission of Mind The Gap in the second one - that is such a strong image.

The last one is so vibrant - I just love night colours and you have captured this one so well.

        Regards. Barr1e

          thanks all.

Re Grand Central. Whilst we were there I saw a small black rucksack without an owner at the top of the stairs. I did report this to a police officer. he said thanks and preceeded to ignore it and go and have a laugh with 4 other officers. 10 mins after I had reported it the sack was still there and not been checked.

We left. Security - only matters when it suits them?

          Best Regards

            Re: New York

Love these, the first reminds me of the classic 'grand central' picture.
I no what its like trying to keep the family happy while you just see frames to shoot, sometimes its frustrating but you just have to bide your time and you usually get the oportunity to shoot what you want. Its a very fine balance when you are out with the family, and after 5 years Im just starting to get my head round the fine balance thats needed as to not upset anybody.
            cheers
