The Jetty

Hi All,

Dont you just love those days when you go out for a walk and the weather actually turns for the better!

It was chucking down all day, and we just decided to talk the elements anyway. Once we arrived, the sun came out, and we even had to put suncream on the little one! Superb!!

Anyway, I took this shot, and after a bit of fiddling came up with this final picture.

Thoughts, and critique are very welcome and appreciated

Great sky and light on the water. Position of the jetty in the frame throws off the balance.

I think PhDPhoto is thinking along the same lines as I was when I first saw it. You seem to have all the right elements but the position of the jetty is wrong somehow. What occurred to me was that its not leading my eye anywhere I want it to rest and therefore it feels unbalanced

My thinking was that the eye should be drawn to centre of the photo, so essentially you eye goes down the right and onto the boat.

Its a shame that the critique section on DPNow is now so quiet. I remember when it was one of the busiest sections.

Agree with what has been said. There is something not quite right. Could be the central setting of the horizon. Have you tried cropping the sky a bit and seeing if that helps?

Hi,

I was thinking along similar lines to Josh but cropping the foreground rather than the sky. Taking off the first, darker, part of the jetty gives more impact to the sky and removes the dark/light transition in the jetty which I think breaks the visual flow.
