  • Pano Conwy

In pursuance of my new found interest in pano's here is one taken in Conwy.
9 vertical images, overlapped aprox 50%, lens 17-35 Sigma @ the 17mm end.
    Stitched in PTGui

As usual any constructive criticism welcome.

    Hi Patrick,
Doesn't PTGui still have a means of aligning layers? It has let you down in two places where this facility would have helped. Almost exactly in the middle of the pano there is a visible join line in the water which leads up to a yacht with a step in the middle, and the moored dinghy in the foreground has a split transom.
    A nice subject though.

Yes it does support layers, I will do it again using that method.

I can see the split, transom, but for the life of me I can't see the visible join you refer to, and I have cleaned my glasses

          Re: Pano Conwy

It isn't too obvious on the water Patrick unless you zoom in, but if you look at the yacht which is almost exactly in the middle of the pano, it has a step in the waterline where it isn't quite aligned.

I have reworked it, created the layers in PTGui and merged them in Photoshop, I cant spot anything this time, can you?

                Re: Pano Conwy

Looks good to me Patrick. The biggest problems that I encounter are in areas of water, especially when there are waves involved. I have tried the attached pano at least six times, and there is still a visible join in the sea. It runs from the bottom up to a point somewhere between the two rocks off the lighthouse.
                Not too noticeable but annoying!

Well Roger I have spent some time looking for the join and I cant see it, you must have very good eyesight.

I need a visit to the opticians because I can't see the join either.

Pat ya going about this all wrong, you can take a shot just like this with just 1 frame, just crop 1 third top and bottom

                        Not really

Firstly there isn't a lens to cover the field of view for such a shot.
Second if it did I would be throwing away 2/3 of the image so when I print a 20" long print the quality wouldn't be there.
I am a photo printer at heart, viewing my results on screen simply isn't enough for me.

I have a loft full of prints 12"x9" and larger (possibly over a 1000) both digital and darkroom all on 20"x16" mount board.
