  • The Hawk Conservancy

Well, went to the Hawk Conservancy yesterday, a great day was had, and fortunately, the rai nheld off for the most part.

Sadly, my long lense (300mm Canon) decided to break I think I may have bent the shaft, it still does the job, but it catches when zooming out. Ah well.
(if anyone has a 300mm telephoto they are looking to sell, I am now in the market so PM me!)

OK, I know it is not good etiquette to put lots of photos up for critique, but I wanted to share a few photos of the day. Its the first one I would really like critique on.
I would also welcome people showing how they would present the second shot of the owl, I dont feel the picture is balanced, and cant seem to decide how to crop. I have not put a border round this one for this reason.

I hope you have enjoyed my whistle stop tour of a few of the birds from The Hawk Conservancy

Its definitely the one that stood out for me Ben. Quite 'Hichcockesqe' Nice composition and toning too. For me there is some creativity here, whilst the others are ordinary by comparison

I just love the first one.

I felt it was a bit onesided and cropped the right and top, but it didn't work, without the dark sky!

It's fine just as it is IMO.

With regard to the second one, I downloaded this. I don't think it is too sharp. In fact I think that there is too little owl in relation to the rest of the picture. Just my opinion you understand.

The other ones are just a nice record. Thanks for sharing.

        I do like No.1 though.

One and two do it for me .....
One for the (as stephen says) Hitchcock effect !!
Think I'd be tempted to just take a smidgen off the right and top though.

And the second ... the look on the Owls face .... brilliant ....
Reminds me of Owl from all those Winnie the Pooh movies
          my grand-daughter watches !!

Must admit I like the look of the third one too .... whilst taking a drink,
it still watches with that dark eye ..... ..... you never know ....

Normal view in the fourth .... what I normally see of most birds,
although their always seem to be going in the other direction !!

Stunning bird in the fifth .... only ever seen on once .... in France .
          ... huge bird !!

Thanks for sharing .... sounds like a great place ...

thanks everyone. I was interested to hear what people thought of the first one, I didnt know if it was too 'way out'.

As for the second Audrey, the original is fine, I gues it has lost a little in the squishing
