I find this a slightly haunting image (in a positive sense!) and can't stop searching around it. Although the focal point is the mail box I am constantly drawn to the house as if trying to ascertain if it is still occupied. I think the large tree on the left intrudes on the mailbox somewhat but cropping would leave the image unbalanced IMO. I too like the B&W conversion and particularly the dappled lighting. Thumbs up from me Jon.

I agree with all that has been said.

Regarding the tree, I like it, but had you moved to the left, just a touch, I think there would have been a little more clearance between the tree and the post box, without it affecting the view of the house. It would probably have just wiped out the bottom right of the window.

Quite eerie.

I aggree, it is a haunting image.

I think losing the tree on the left would indeed unbalance the shot, however, having it there, is clearly obstructing an area of bright sunlight, so I like the inclusion.

here, a raised flag is a signal to the postman that there's outgoing mail to be collected. the contents of this box appeared to be incoming advertisements.

Fair enough, I always thought it was a signal to the house owner that they had mail Makes me glad though that we use letterboxes in our front doors
