Re: Venetian masked mannequin
I like it Ian. It is different. Was the pavement really sloping or have you manipulated it?

Re: Venetian masked mannequin
I used an ultra wide angle lens (14mm equivalent). The verticals are just about straight but the horizontal pavement has been stretched towards the corners of the frame (the image is cropped).Originally posted by Autumn View PostI like it Ian. Not at all - I'm looking for honest commentsOriginally posted by jojo View PostDon't like the grain one little bit (or the sloping pavement for that matter) - sorry Ian!

I'm not satisfied with it myself, so I'm interested in the opinions of others too.

Re: Camera mag journos at work
I must confess these mask shots leave me cold.
In the club scene we are awash with them and there are some real belters, even so there are so many it gets boreing.
There is one speaker does a whole evenings talk on them, Yawn.

Re: Venetian masked mannequin
Immediate first impression is that I like the idea, quite like some aspects of the picture and the processing but I'm not sure you've got it right yet.
I like the desat, like the grain on the desat too but I'm not keen on the grain and desaturation effect on the the cloak and hat of the mannequin.
The perspective and slight slope of the pavement doesn't bother me. I rather like that because it kinda blends with the background and adds to the funkiness of the overall idea.
Some suggestions ... I see the image as a sort of ad image style of picci. The background has a feel of newspaper moire type of thing with a model or mannequin either superimposed or actually stading there for whatever reason the advertising peeps might want to portray.
I think it might have more impact if the entire mannequin was processed (or left alone) so she was the same, all over, as the face/mask. I might also try cropping off the mannequin stand at the edge of the cloak - so that she appears to be standing on the pavement, her 'feet' covered by the cloak. ie giving the impression she's a real human being - a mysterious lady wearing a mask.
Maybe aim for a sort of 'theatrical' style of image ....... if you see what I'm getting at.

Re: Venetian masked mannequin
Well, I can't make up my mind. I do like it, it is a photograph that holds my attention for more than a cursory glance, and makes me wonder, 'what if this or that', so it scores on that point. But there are areas that I do not like, and not the obvious grainy ones either, which I think have given it the appearance of being painted on textured board. The area half way up on the left hand side looks too modern and not in keeping and I find the stand annoying and too obvious. Not a favourite but keeps my attention.

Re: Venetian masked mannequin
Hi
I think the composition is great along with the use of colour. The mask really drws the eye and it works for me. As others have said I'm not convinced the grain adds anything.

. The pavement angle is weird too. I like the idea of keeping the manequin sharp and saturated but not the background.
