  • Rudyard Lake At Dawn

This is one of my first attempts at landscapes when i got my 350d. I suppose it is a matter of opinion but i thought the light was ok. Any comments good or bad are most welcome____JIM.

Hi Jim, glad to see you've put a couple of images in your gallery already. Firstly how wonderful to have such scenic opportunities on your door step - definitely worth getting up a 4.30 in the morning for! Regarding your shot - whilst you have captured the stillness and tranquility of the early morning I have to say that the image could do with being being sharper (focus-wise). I see from your exif data that you had ISO 200 set; I would imagine that this is why the camera selected a wide aperture, f5 and a slow shutter speed of 1/3 sec in order to try and get the correct exposure. Were you hand-holding? I think you would have achieved a much sharper shot if you had used a tripod and also set a smaller aperture so that you had a much greater depth of field. Good try though.

Hi Jim and welcome to DPNow. This had the potential for a good shot, though unfortunately it is not sharp. Not sure if its lens blur or camera shake, though the 2 lights in the small building in the distance suggest there is some camera shake. Early morning shots such as this are best done with a tripod in my experience. Once of the golden rules of this sort of photography though is to get it sharp.

Very nicely composed shot! If you are able to revisit the scene, would suggest as others have said, to use a tripod for low light conditions! editing would benefit from a saturation tweak as well!
