  • view on entering Lincon

I have finally got out again and taken some photo's,
and one that I can post on here.

I took this from a foot bridge over the road. He came with me for me to support myself against as I hate heights.....

I have a chance to go back. one suggestion has been made to bring the photo up.
And I wondered what yours were?

A very nice photo FP. The only alteration I would make is to crop the sides of the new blocks on the left and right.

I have done this and just tweaked it a little. What do you think.

I was aiming to keep to the old buildings as much as possible.

I made a very quick selection of the sky with the magic wand to replace the sky! However, it unfortunately included part of the cathedral/church roof! This is purely a quick example to indicate how by altering the sky, more emphasis is given to the structure at skyline! The alterations are far from perfect, but give the gist of suggestions! The saturation was enhanced of rest of photo by selecting inverse! I also agree cropping out the new buildings at the sides of photo improves overall view!

Have a go at Burning the sky a little, that might make a difference as I feel it is too light especially up on the right there by the roof.

Wahay the place where I cracked out my egg
The pic is square, so you have trimmed already, the building on the left is important as it leads you into the cathedral, the tree on the right is irelevent so crop it out. And with it being one of the oldest city's in england an old theme I think is required.
Not a shot and standpoint I would have taken personally but there ya go. I hope you took time to go around the cathedral itself and take some more shots!

and autumn the roads really are not purple

Have another suggestion for you! Open image in editor. Select sky with Freehand lasso tool. Feather selection by approx 150 to 200 pixels to soften edges, hit ok. Go CTRL J to punch selection to new layer. Go to blending mode - select Multiply, which multilies the sky with itself, giving more punch & character....darkening the sky! Flatten Image.
Make another selection & punch to new layer...or do adjustment layer within the selection.
Go to COLOUR BALANCE & adjust the red & yellow in highlights, blue in shadows. Go to saturation & tweak this as well.
When happy, flatten image & sharpen as desired. Hope this helps.

I'd go with cropping off the office block on the left but I guess you then need to trim the right side to "balance"the picture a little. An interesting viewpoint though, as it's often difficult to get these massive buildings in their entirety (more-or-less) in a single frame.

My MIL lives near Gainsborough and we sometimes go to Lincoln "shopping" . I think the MIL and 'er indoors just enjoy the walk up Steep Hill . I've yet to go inside the Cathedral though, maybe next time.

Have you been to the castle recently? I recall taking some nice shots of the cathedral from the castle wall a few years back. They were spoilt a little by masses of scaffolding - I guess that's probably all gone now though..

no afraid not the scaffolding has not gone some of the castle wall is crumbling.
I have in the last couple of weeks got into the cathedral. hope to go back with the tripod.
I was quite in awe and amazed at it. just stunning.
I would recommend anyone to go in.
