  • St Lukes Formby

Went to Formby point yesterday, walked along the beach and tried to return a different route and lost our way, found ourselves by St Luke's church with this wonderful show of Bluebells in the grave yard.

Like the strong contrasty look of the stone with the lovely blue of the flowers, nice one.

Nice one Patrick. I like the whole composition. Not one for gravestones usually, but amidst the beautiful bluebells it works for me. A lot of people photograph gravestones in mono giving to my mind a miserable look, because they think it suits the mood, so it is a pleasant change to see your photo.

As I have said in another thread I don't have a lot of luck photographing bluebells because I often get blown highlights even though I have the exposure compensation set lower.

Another thing is finding sufficient to get a good show.

You certainly found a good show of bluebells Patrick, even though the colours are not what I usually associate with them, maybe you have altered the colours in the whole image. Its a good composition IMO, though I somehow sense the main gravestone feels as though its 'floating' in the grass and flowers

As usual Stephen you put your finger on it, yes I did change the colour of the bluebells in Lightroom. They came out a little on the purple side as bluebells are prone to do when photographed (someone explained why to me once but I can't remember the reason).
I processed the picture in the summerhouse on the laptop yesterday, and the ambient light was probably a little bright to judge the colours properly, perhaps I went a little to fare.
I like the idea of a floating gravestone.

Now that's a different take on the bluebell carpet. As has been said, and you have commented, the shade of blue doesn't look quite right. They also look more rounded rather than long bell shaped .. possibly Spanish or hybrids? It is the gravestone that keeps pulling my eye though, and for me I'd rather focus on the bluebells. The smaller stones being darker are not so intrusive, and perhaps a shot across these would have a more poignant effect. I'm wittering, I'll shut up.
