I thought id post these as I would like feedback on how these could be improved. These are taken on my Olympus E500 with the 14-45mm kit lens at max closest focus to utalize autofocus, handheld.

I know you are not comparing but I prefer the first shot and as I prefer to concentrate on one image in Critique, I'll refer to that shot.
The bugs are beautifully sharp and their colour contrasts well with that of the Acer. I was a little uneasy about the out of focus leaf and the out of focus area under the leaves. The leaf may have benefited from greater DOF but I somehow thought cropping into the bottom was not the ideal solution. The green leaf bugs are basically too central and its this that is causing the problem with the oof area below. I then checked your gallery and you uploaded a similar shot taken at the same time. For me this is spot on and much better balanced than the one here. You have also used the thirds to greater advantage.
