Fantastic shot Stephen; reminds me very much of one you took a while back of some rigging with some buildings in the background. If my memory serves me well it might have been the Liver Building in Liverpool.

Very powerful image Stephen with the mask perfectly placed from the top left. Although you name it Tay Bridge and I can see the bridge, I think the picture is more about the rigging, than the bridge.

Strong composition and keeps my attention. I think probably the rope could be sharpened up or brought out a little. I like the grain in the mast. I also like the way the flag curls round to the top right of the image.

I think you are absolutely right Audrey, I think my title was somewhat tongue in cheek as the picture is an extreme example of creating foreground interest

Thanks for your thoughts, I did think about lifting the shadow area in the bottom left to bring out more detail in the rope. I decided in the end that there was enough detail in the rope on the block and tackle, which, incidentally seems tack sharp for me I even darkened the corner a tad with a subtle vignette, to keep the eye focussed more centrally.

It is so cleverly done, that I would never had noticed it, however, it certainly keeps the eye focussed more centrally. A lovely photo. I like these kind of shots.

Great shot but think i would have cropped the walkway out at the bottom.

I think Andrew makes a good point there, Stephen.

'Losing' the walkway somehow gives the image more expanse as well as giving the feeling you're actually out there and genuinely sailing.

Thanks Andrew and Pol. I think you are possibly right, at the time I questioned whether it was losing too much of the rope by cropping and decided not to bother. Maybe I'll try it now. The ship of course is in a dry dock and the walkway is across the lock gate.

It all appears to have been said. Its a very powerful image but the title is hopelessly wrong..... 'Pointing the Way' would be more approprate

Better imho. I feel it that it has more immediate impact with the crop. Super picci.

Definitely better. As I said a super image, but now even more impact. I think it's a Keeper Stephen.
