I took this photo as I thought it had potential, what do you think?

    Re: Praying Mantis

If anyone is interested in having a go at improving the pic, if you think or see it has 'some' potential, as a challenge of sorts!
I tried selective editing to enhance shadows etc & came up with this! (Very fiddly doing selections)

Yes, I like the idea Jocelyn, that is a super shadow, and you have placed him well. However, the bright grid does not make for easy viewing. I wonder if making more of the shadow by rotating 90 degrees CW would work, just an idea. Fascinating creatures, sorry I can't be of more help.

        Re: Praying Mantis

It has been raining nearly all morning here Jocelyn, so I used your Mantis for a bit of light relief. I'm afraid I've made him look rather sinister.

          Re: Praying Mantis

OOh! It does look a little sinister Blithe but thanks for the idea of rotating! I think it's female as I've found an egg case, which looks like polystyrene foam! It's strange as I had not seen a mantis since leaving Africa almost 8 years ago! Then I saw a green one on the front patio the other day! The very next day, I saw this yellow/golden one in the same area! The other photos I took with my Panasonic was a little later & the light had changed, so the shadow was non existant! In South Africa, the mantis in legend is a God, particularly of the San or Bushman tribes! It was supposedly the giver of words to man!

Thanks! It's rather menacing isn't it!
