I can't make my mind up about this chaps facial expression. It could be a slight knowing smile, a look of impatience or even a scowl. Whichever I think its a great pic and well suited to mono

Nicely processed shot Patrick. It brings out the feel of the job, dirty and grimy work, but also I feel this chap is loving it, after all he is the engine driver, every young kids dream

I really like this. I just wish I could do people pictures but its just something I find really hard to do. I think its the sort of picture that just suits b/w. Heres a question for all of you do you go and ask the person if you can take their photo and then hope they do not just stand there with some daft grin or do you just take it on the run so to speak. Sorry if that is a question that should be posted all on its own but people who look at and take these sort of photos would be the best to answer it I hope.

Hi Peter thanks for your comments.

In this particular instance I asked on entering the railway station could I take pictures, but not the guy himself.
It was a narrow gage railway using steam engines in Wales and only opens between March and October as a tourist attraction, so they expect people to be taking pictures.
In this day and age its best to ask but the trouble is the natural element in a picture is then destroyed its all very difficult.

Very nice pat, now thats what Im talkin about, excellent light, natural expression and bring it on with the black & white! In my view very good. By looking at the pic as a thumbnail it was almost 3d.

Absolutely excellent - you've captured the lighting and mood of the day so well.

Now why is it whenever I'm dragged off the the local steam railway I can't do that? I really do need to work on my 'people' shots, and find your work inspiring (though somewhat daunting at times)
