  • Ruberslaw Hill

Two views of Ruberslaw Hill in the Scottish Borders, site of an Iron Age Hill Fort which was also used by the Roman's, as a signal post.

Ruberslaw Hill taken from the A6088; this started off with the idea of taking a simple photo of the hill to post on the Megalithic Portal website, it ended up with me trying to bring my limited photographic skills into play to hopefully produce an image that draws the viewer's eye into the photo by means of the wooden fence. I tried using the fence to lead the eye into the photo from the left, middle and right of the photo; due to various factors the one posted is the one that kind of works best:

At first glance, they look like they're taken from the same place - the wildly differing weather conditions and lighting didn't help!

Although the lighting is possibly better in the second picture, I find the dark area at the front distracting and prefer the first image as in my view it gives a better representation of how the scene might have been during that time. (I could be totally wrong, and they could have had a stone wall).

      Thanks for the feedback Caz,

You could be right about them having a stone wall as in the field to the left of the fence there were lots of house bricks littered around, many still cemented together which was one of the reasons that taking photos from that angle never worked, in the field to the left there was a water logged area of ground; dealing with either would have meant hours of cloning in Photoshop.
