I've spent the day in the Whitby area and some time on the beach at Saltwick Bay.
I had a crack at the Nab.
Any thoughts

Well firstly, it would really help if you added the picture to your DPNow gallery and then link under the image to the forum thread so we see it in all its glory
Now I think the light is great and you have the potential for a really lovely picture. I don't think though that you have made the most of it.
The outcrop at the end jars a little for me because its not on a third line. Now this is not essential, but there are times when it just helps.
The horizon is not level, and its always been my opinion that its essential to get this right esp with the sea.
Lastly I think you could do something with the contrast and levels to give it more impact
Stephen - I do like your rendition of the scene but my eye keeps being pulled to the the left hand edge and I am then left wondering 'Why was a crop made at this point'?. I feel that the end of the Nab should not have been cut off, similarly the rock on the beach below it.
I am not familiar with the area but I wonder if it would have been possible to have moved a few paces to the left and turned the body a bit to the right. I feel this would have created a more balanced composition.

Dennis my thinking about the position of the crop from the left was that the tall outcrop was roughly on a third line. As I said in my comment it was the position of this that jarred on me. The sky was cropped down also so the horizon was above the half way point. I'm sure there are other possibilities but that was how I saw it at the time
