Re: tree
A really great shot Jon, very simple but yet very effective, would look great on large canvas, the sillouete style but with detail at the base of the tree makes it stand out from other similar tree shots.

Re: tree
I suspect the effect you refer to Ash is because Jon has burnt in the sky and possibly lightened other areas. The sky looks a little overcooked in places to me. However that aside, there is something about the composition or position of the tree and landscape that doesn't sit quite right with my eye and I'm not sure why. Its one of those things where you need to be there with your camera, to walk around the scene and work out the best composition. I'm sure you did this Jon, but I'm just not sure you have pulled it off, sorry.Originally posted by ash View PostA really great shot Jon, very simple but yet very effective, would look great on large canvas, the sillouete style but with detail at the base of the tree makes it stand out from other similar tree shots.

Re: tree
no need in being sorry...i visit this board for constructive criticism and that's what you've provided. thank you.
actually this was 'fake' hdr attempt. i adjusted the exposure of two raw images and combined in photomatix. the result is a little strong, but i was pleased that i kinda pulled one off. now that i have an idea of how hdr is supposed to be shot, i'll give it another go making proper adjustments in the field with separate images.
thanks for the critique.
