Hi Andrew, super shot, I love all the textures of the tree. The depth of field makes it almost 3D as well, which works well.
Being picky though, I am not sure about the bo, the face looks a little blown out and he doesnt seem to fit in well with the picture. -

I have to say, that the shot is growing on me.
Now I am home, it looks even nicer on the monitor at home. and the boy isnt so much of a distraction.Comment

Well I have looked at this photo a few times and it is growing on me. Not sure about the tree of life thing but if thats the way you want us to see it so be it. The subject next month at camera club is wood but nothing man made so I guess I will be out looking for the odd tree or two this weekend myself

I love everything, absolutely everything, about this shot. The concept of the 'tree of life', the scale of the little chap vs the huge tree, the dof, the textures, the processing - everything!
I reckon you excelled yourself here, Andrew. I reckon a huge print would be superb. Maybe even a colour copy too - if that distant sky happened to be the sort of soft blue I'm imagining (but it was probably Wintery grey, eh?)

Very nice shot, enhanced by the B&W conversion! I like the concept, but find that ones focus is mainly on the textures etc of the roots & the boy not sufficiently noticeable at first! Had the lad been a tad to the left, or with more contrast (lighter clothing) the composition...balance, would've been enhanced, making a perfect shot!JocelynComment

I'll be going back to this spot soon just to take some of the woods as i did not have time to do this before.

Awww - he's loving it clambering about there!
Superb blend of colours, exactly as I'd imagined. Very natural and true looking colours and the little chap's clothing is so nicely colour coordinated within the scene.
Definitely one for the album - possibly even a candidate for a selection to be included in a family or 'natural environment' style of calendar.
B/W or colour - both superb imho. It comes over as a 'happy' shot.
