  • Emergency Vehicle Access

Come on then, sock it to me!

Taken this evening just before 5pm on the way back from work (no, i am not lazy...I started early!)
The light was very poor, so I wacked up the ISO to 400, stuck on the f1.8 50mil.

I was really wanting to record the flood, as opposed to getting a nice shot, but I thought I would try for one, as I liked the irony of the sign.

Personally I quite like the way it turned out.

I like the composition, but the oil drum on the left looks soft. There is really limited depth of field in the foreground - I only mention this as a possible reason for the softness of the drum. The softness in the foreground actually has an appealing quality about it. The trees in the background are very dark with little detail that I can see. I wonder if this would print large?

I'd probably try getting closer - does the full width of the barrier need to be included? Maybe try a portrait view?

    Just wondering

      Re: Emergency Vehicle Access

I looked at this earlier after you posted it and thought there was something not quite right but couldn't put my finger on it. Something Ian said made me realise. Basically I think its the perspective that the 50mm lens has given you. My theory is that had you been further back with a longer lens it may have worked better, altered the perspective, and shown less foreground or background.

It put me in mind of this shot of mine It was taken using a long lens, but of course there was a bit of drama happening in front of the gate.

Yes, the lense was definately not ideal, and I am going to be revisiting the place.

The trouble I had was the light conditions. I think any of my other lense with its limiting aperture size, would have rendered the shot useless. As it was, many of the shots were somewhat blurred.

I took a few shots in portrait as well, excluding the barrells as Ian suggested, but frankly this was the best.

I will post a few when I revisit and the light conditions are much better....if of course, the floods are still there!
