Re: Swan
Well I really like this Tom, the shape created by the swans neck and wings etc is different and quite appealing, and it contrasts well against the blackness of the water. The whole thing is complimented by the frame IMHO, so well done all roundOriginally posted by Tom View Post

Re: Swan
Great shot, Tom! I somehow forgot the title and was wondering for a while what kind of monument/flower it was. took a few seconds to recall it. A good shape/pose indeed. He/She must have been a very cooperative swan who appreciated your patience on a rainy day.
It looks like you took this from a high bridge or so?

Re: Swan
I dare bet that looks even more wonderful at full size ..... and overwhelmingly wonderful as a 10 x 8 print.Originally posted by Tom View PostTwo weekends ago I visited Kew Gardens and it rained for all the time I was there which was most of the day. But I managed a few of the swans and this is one of them.
Your comments as usual are appreciated.

All those tones, details and textures must surely have come off a Pentax.

Re: Swan
My goodness everyone; what a lovely positive amount of feedback on the Swan. I got good mileage from her. All the swan shots were taken with the 50mm 1.4. They are a bit grainey in larger size. I have a dreadful habit of setting an ISO speed for certain conditions and frogetting then to change it back. In this case it was 800 and I would have managed well with 400 or even less. ( I should get a fairly good 10x8 though)There were a few swans about but I concentrated on this one as she was really giving herself a good old groom, hence all the lovely unusual shapes. I was about 6-7ft above her and I just kept following her in the viewfinder and kept firing every few seconds.
I will post a few more later on tonight.

Re: Swan
I was always forgetting to reset the ISO too so I mostly have it set on an ISO range between 100-400 on the K10D. I only increase the range to 100-800 if I think there's a chance the situation may need to go up to 800 but rarely set it for a fixed ISO these days, unless I want to fix it at ISO 100 for a clean shot with a slow shutter speed.Originally posted by Tom View PostMy goodness everyone; what a lovely positive amount of feedback on the Swan.
