I included the 4 X 4 tyre track to echo the line in cloud formation when setting up my shot, which was taken at sunset! Converted to mono! Your comments & critique appreciated!

Well I'll buy it Jocelyn Actually I think both tracks would make it work even better. I do like the picture though. I love these sort of expansive beaches. I'm not sure but I feel the sand is a pretty dark type, this contrasts well with the reflective nature of the water. Wouldn't you just like to get yer shoes off and run along the waters edge, and splash in the water as the waves caught you

I know its tricky to get horizons straight when shooting in these situations, but I do feel a bit of rotation CW would help this.

I tried a crop and lightening the mid tones. Cropping to place the horizon in the top third does slightly improve the image in my opinion, but even with the brightening of mid tones the image was still a little dark. Brightening the highlights immediately "overexposed" the image.

I think having both tracks would have made a huge difference. What does the pic look like in colour?

Yes, 2 tracks would've been better. The photos I took which included the 2 tracks didn't have enough impact as they were further away! Stephen, I always love to paddle barefoot in the surf & that occasion was no exception! The expanse of that beach was absolutely amazing! The one thing that struck me was the reflective surface....sky reflected on the wet surface. This is more pronounced in the colour photo!

This is what the pic looks like in colour
The 2ns shot was takien higher up the beach & a couple of minutes later!
when I can actually get 'my pics' to open or download/ work properly it may help!

It's realy interesting to see the colour versions but on this occasion I think you were right to convert to mono. Concentrating on tones rather than colour helps to emphasise the convergence of what is happening in the sky with what is happening on the beach in this well observed composition.
