Took my new D300 out for its first outing on Sat. Went to a place I've not been to since i was a wee lad An old church that is close to Bromyard where i spent alot of time when i was young. Got to the church just before sunrise and its one spooky place, loads of ravens sitting on top of the tower that all flew off when i walked up to it, real horror film stuff So what do you think?

Hi Andrew, I think this is a great shot, nicely composed making it flow from front to back. It has a real spooky churchyard feel, and this is enhanced by the ivy on the gravestone and the toning you have applied. Autumn is obviously a good time to visit as I imagine there is a little more light getting in. Even though to say it is just before sunrise, you have done well to be able to emphasise the stones.

Finally I don't think the white b/g of the forum page does the shot any favours and think if it were against a black b/g it would have more impact. Is it worth adding a black border do you think?

Andrew has now thankfully added a black border, much better IMO

Hi Andrew. Love the light and tones in this. It has great clarity especially in the stone and ivy in the foreground. Initially when I looked at it, I wasnt 100% sure about the composition. My first thought was that having all the stone work to the left of the shot may unbalance it slightly. I'm not sure if a slight move to the left with the camera would improve the shot or not. However, when I look again it think the comnposition is fine, its jus the ivy on the right of the foreground stone that tricks the mind a little! Anyway, its still an excellent shot.

      Cheers
