Bought myself a new monitor yesterday (24" !) and I'm still playing with the settings / calibration and wondered how this looks to the outside world. It looks quite vibrant to me!





I thought this new version (processed via DxO) looked better than my previous entry in the gallery of the same image (different crop) which was processed via CS2 (Perhaps I'm just not that clever with PhotoShop ).

The first version looks great to me, and the second one slightly muted by comparison. Its down to personal choice in the end I suppose, but I don't think have anything to worry about with the monitor

Good, just that everything looks brighter and, as I mentioned, more vibrant. I'm still playing with height & angle as I find even a small change can affect the evenness (sp?) of the brightness of the monitor if you get my drift.

I'm using an analogue VGA connection at the moment but, based on past experience, I expect that the digital lead, when I get it, will give me a slightly improved result. I've got DVI out on my graphics card but the input on the monitor is HDMI and I didn't have a suitable lead in my bag of bits.

Have to say that it is nice using PhotoShop at 1920 x 1200! and, being a gamer, COD4 looks rather good on it as well. 'er indoors had her usual Saturday night feast of X-Factor and "Strictly" last night so I watched a DVD on the PC and it handled that very well too

I was looking at your new Mac (very nice) in the shop when this monitor caught my eye and I bought it more-or-less on the spur of the moment. Made the mistake of reading some reviews when I got home , one panned it but it got 8/10 from a couple of others and I'm happy with it so far.

Anyway, to me......and that's my Sonos system out of the window

My Huey seemed to cope OK with the calibration although I did do some initial tweaking with the supplied HP "My Display" software. I'll have to post a few more pics with "normal" colours (i.e. not crimson and electric blue parrots!) and see if anyone perceives that they are overly vibrant.

I'll find out about the digital connection when I get the lead obviously but a similar change with my previous monitor (also an HP) made a noticeable difference. That said, I'd still be happy with it as it is now.

Danny may be right, I'll bow to his superior knowledge, it is bright but I'm not running it flat-out. It's on 90% brightness and 70% contrast - any more than that and it hurts your eyes

Yes the resolution on these screens is fantastic, but I'm now used to the size and now when I look at my lappy everything looks small, well big actally as text etc on a screen this size is smaller. I seem to have had similar reservations with brightness, my lappy screen is dull by comparison. However at the end of the day, the output seems fine so I'm pretty happy about that.

I don't have any issues with leads and connections as you describe however. You just take it out of the box, switch on and it works, simple as that. Its almost like having a huge laptop on its side but with a separate, but rather cool keyboard and mouse I've just uninstalled a major prog., no issues with Add remove progs etc. You just get hold of the program file and put it in the bin, sorted. The only noise I am now hearing is a slight hum from what I presume is the HD. I suppose though that you IT wallers couldn't cope with the lack of things to tinker with and upgrade

True, very true but that's what PCs are for aren't they? .

Mine still has an intermittent fault that causes it to switch itself off at the most inconvenient moment - did it 8 times yesterday in the space of an hour but hadn't done it for a couple of weeks before that or today. I'll get to the bottom of the problem one day, if not I'll just have to upgrade - I was looking at a rather nice quad-core yesterday
