Beached Rock, Dead Tree and Dunes

This was taken on the beach at Portballintrae on the north coast of Northern Ireland. When I saw the scene it looked very photogenic. The light was good and I liked the composition. Of course, when I got home and looked through the shots I had taken, I hadnt managed to capture it as my eyes had seen it. The colour versions have ended up on the cutting room floor - but I thought I would try a b&w version and croppe it much tighter and in the end I am coming round to it again! Happy for any thoughts.

Hi Richard - you're trying very hard with this one, but for me it's not as great as the other pictures you posted. I'm distracted by the burned out (photographically!) branch and I'm not sure the foregrond lump of stone is an attractive enough subject to take some dominance of the scene. But the effect you have achieved with the glowing areas is well worth re-applying to other compositions.

Hi Richard, I think I can "feel" your wants and firm determination to create something special like this. Apart from pp skills applied, this particular photo however does not impress me a lot - as I already know you have much more attractive pictures - some of which are already uploaded here and you still have some more at your home page. To be more specific about this pic, it seems to me there's no sufficiently strong core subject or concepts you wanted to convey (other than the pp attempt). And imho those footprints around the rock are inelegant.
I do not know why but for me your colour pix are more appealing and often convey more successfully your world you are trying to create/express.

Considering the huge technical difference between the English and Japanese languages, I continue to be in awe of your mastery of English! You made your point in clear and most eloquent manner And I agree with you as well!

I too think Yoshi puts it very well, without the PP, which is a bit heavy in places IMO, there isn't enough of a strong concept conveyed. But hee is probably lots of potential in the area for a revisit

I can see what you are saying and cant really disagree with any of it! This was taken about 7 months ago and didnt get an airing at the time. I sometimes go back and sift through old images if the weather is not great and I cant get out. I did hum and haa about this a lot and couldnt really decide if I liked it or not. I'll put it down to experience and move on to the next one!
