  • Texture and Shade

I found this quite pleasing, but I would be interested in any comments. It was taken with a wide aperture from a low angle to throw the background out of focus.

    Re: Texture and Shade

Hi Kurt, I'm loathe to say the picture lacks grit Perhaps you understand what I mean. I like the concept of light and shade, shape and form though. I think I'd like to see a little more depth of field though to keep the edges sharper, and crop a little of the top and bottom to make it a little tighter. Do you think a little more contrast would help too?

I think Stephen has just put into words what I was thinking. I am increasingly drawn to b/w images relying on form - and like the general idea here. I would have liked to have seen the nice swooping diagonal being really crisp against the dark shadow.

I feel it lacks sharpness & contrast! Perhaps if the background were a lot lighter it would help. If the method of sharpening is by placing light next to dark or white next to black, creating an illusion of clarity....try replacing the background with something very much lighter!
