Blimey, looks like their gun laws are slightly out of tune with the EU! I know there's a way to go yet before they're full members of course.

    I'm assuming they're not replicas?

I don't know if they are real or not - there are bullets for sale on the counter. I would think that thas the guns are on open display they can't be real, but I don't know.

Anyhows - any feedback on the picture for critique?

Well there's a man who looks happy in his work

Its an eyecatching picture Ian, if only for the pattern created by the guns on the wall behind and the orange colour of the wall. the hot spot on the left draws the eye, but its a pretty good exposure so far as I can see. With good depth of field and low noise. I checked the Exif so I see it was 1/40th at 5.6 and iso400. Can't fault it really. Not sure what else to say, except maybe it would have been nice to have got more interaction with the guy, but then he probably wasn't aware of you taking the picture.

The truth is that I did signal to him if it was OK to take a picture - after all, he had the guns and bullets

He nodded and then looked disinterested. Actually, I rather like his expression as part of the overall scene - it kind of contrasts with the explosive fire power represented by the guns on the wall. I feel that this picture will send all sorts of messages to the viewer.

The hot spot wasn't recoverable - but I'm not sure under the conditions if even an EOS-5D would have preserved that highlight perfectly

              Re: Gun Culture

I think it's a great shot . It's got nice patterns with the guns on the wall but also with the bullets under the glass. The four guns on the counter are also nicely positiond too. The slight burn out is not a big problem here as it appears gradually and not too sudden but the man himself ensures we don't concentrate on it.
I would have called this image "Arms"

The content is brilliant and I agreee with Tom that the slight burn-out isn't a problem.

I just can't help cracking up every time I look at it so I dunno if that makes me a sicko or summat - but that fella's expression and pose is just so funny!

You seem to have a knack for getting this sort of 'everyday' shot. I envy your confidence.

I like the patterns that the guns make. The hotspot to me isn't that glaringly obvious! The guns look real enough to me, especially when you see a couple with little barrel cleaners/mini bottlebrushes hanging from them!! The guy looks zonked on hash or too much gunpowder fumes! Can't say guns turn me on tooo much....there were too many in the wrong hands in Johannesburg in particular! That made life pretttty hairy!
