Was out taking photos with Stephen this afternoon. This turned into something of a masterclass with him as mentor and me as student. I learned a lot from him about composition and using light to good advantage and was really pleased to get this shot with sunlight streaming through the fern. I'd be happy to have opinions.

I was just about to compliment you on a very nice photo, when I scrolled down and read your message. This had a Stephen ring to it. I wish I could get that class of help. Any help come to that.
Thanks Ron - Stephen and I go way back - 30 years in fact -and I have to admit that his insight into composing pictures played a big part in my choosing this shot. Having said that I take responsibility for the finished product and thank you for your comments.
HaHa, I was about to say it beats teaching don't it
I'll post one of mine later on.
For me 3 of the golden rules of getting good pics is firstly to master the controls on the camera and know what they do, secondly develop an eye for seeing a good picture or composition, often known as visualisation, and thirdly but closely linked to 2, use the light to good effect, then be able to use 1 to capture it. I think we covered a lot of that this afternoon

I think it is a lovely photograph. I love the way the fern jumps out of the page, and you have it perfectly exposed as well, this is something that could have so easily blown out.
I have to say that I am very envious of you going out with 'The Master' I would honestly pay good money for that!
The palette of autumn combined with sunlight makes it a very restful calm photograph. The twig top left annoys me a little but I really like the light catching upon the individual leaves in the foreground. I can hear the crackle of the woodland floor in this one.
