Re: Autumn in the woods
Very nice, I can see that helping to sell quite a few A700's.Originally posted by Ian View PostBeen a while since I posted in the Critique forum - so how about this one?
Taken this morning in the woods above Aldbury, near Berkhamsted.
Sony Alpha A700 with Sony/CArl Zeiss 16-80 (24-120) f/3.5-4.5

Have you tested the L10 on anything similar? Would like to see a comparison of image quality.

Re: Autumn in the woods
From outside in, I only quite like the frame, but could not suggest anything other than a couple of pixels of white and probably 8 pixels black and I always like the dropped shadow. Totally unobtrusive and boring!
I just love the colours, composition and the saturation and sharpness, although the saturation is a teeny bit OTT for me but somehow it works. The position of the big tree is fine, but I feel it just needs toning down a bit as it is on the verge of taking over the picture.
Well, that me done, now I've upset you, I'll go on my holidays.

Here's the Lumix L10 version - this is a tweaked JPEG from the camera while the Sony A700 shot is from RAW.Originally posted by lumix View PostVery nice, I can see that helping to sell quite a few A700's.

Re: Autumn in the woods
I prefer the 2nd shot actually as the first made my eyes go squonk! I found the angle of the trees at the top of the frame a bit off putting with the lean & dark branch in the centre top giving the illusion of bending the frame in the centre! The second has cut that branch out & is much more pleasing to the eye! A very nice photo Ian. Lovely colour! One can almost smell the damp leaves collecting on the ground & fresh air!Jocelyn

Re: Autumn in the woods
How much of a tweak did you give it? I did like the first image until I see the L10 version. Now I'd say no contest. L10 wins without a doubt. Now you just knew I'd say that, didn't you.Originally posted by Ian View PostHere's the Lumix L10 version - this is a tweaked JPEG from the camera while the Sony A700 shot is from RAW.

By the way. The L10's image also looks better than the A700 when printed.

Re: Autumn in the woods
Hi Ian,
Wot ya playing at,
? critique an image like this, did you leave that bit of dirt bank in on purpose?
to give us something to say
A superb image in my opinion, great colors and very autumnal. Crop or clone the bottom left dirt bank, although a very minor detail and the image is strong enought to leave it in if you are so inclined.
The portrait image is again superb, less saturated and just pips the first, but only just.Catch Ya Later
