Dave - is there a better way of protecting your copyright? Your watermark really ruins the pictures, sadly. I know you are protecting your work and you earn from your photography (goodness only knows - we are in a legal fight over the theft of one of our pictures from the site, but that is another story) but I just feel you've gone OTT and the cure is worse than the malady...

i totally agree, it makes it so hard to offer critique.

It looks like the fella only has one arm?

Looking at what we can see however, I would it works really well, however, the front wheel definately needs some motion blurr, as at present, it looks wrong that everything else has the speed lines, yet the wheel is saying that the bike is stationary.

hi ian, not really. learnt from bitter experience that this is the only way to reduce the risk of images being ripped off and used without permission / knowledge. it's one of the reasons i rarely post any images anywhere.

ben - no photoshop motion blur added. this is as shot. perhaps i went a little too strong with the fill flash?

Did you have any luck in pursuing image thieves? In our case the company (yes it was a company) admitted liability but only offered rubbish compensation - they came across as if they were doing us a favour for stealing one of our images.

Looks like we'll take them to the small claims court as we have valued the image via Alamy based on what they used it for.

But back to the water mark - I still feel that a more subtle overlay would still do the job. A bit more transparency to the watermark - it would still render the file useless for commercial applications.

Water mark apart the idea works, but perhaps the execution misses out.
I agree with Ben the front wheel might benefit from some motion blur.
Worse I think is the big white area on the top left, it bleaches the top of the helmet, front of the face, the bikes handle bars and the driver is missing his hand. One of these elements burned out could be OK the viewer would possibly fill in with their minds eye but four its just spoiled.
However you say you are happy with it as achieved what you wanted, then thats the most important thing, but look again and I feel you will agree it could be none better.

nope. the firm was based in egypt so they were quite happy just ignoring all contact. ordinarily the watermark would've been a lot lighter, but the image was posted elsewhere so i needed it a little more prominent. agree it's too much as it stands.

sod's law. of the 1000+ taken at this corner over the course of 2 hrs (yep, that's right, a photo every 6 secs on average) this had to've been the one with the sky blowing out the hand and face. there's a few others with the same affliction, but most were fine. doh! that'll teach me to not just pick at random in future (went for the bright yellow!).
