If I am right, Ben used a Canon EF 75-300 USM f4-5.6, purchased in HK back in 1995 (by me ).

Poor Ben - he must be getting tired of me repeating this information but I am just so proud of what he has achieved with my old lens!

          Hi Danny and Ian,

These arent wild wolves (I wish they were!) these were taken today on a photo shoot at the UK Wolf Conservation Trust in Beenham.

Ian is spot on, I still love the 75-300 lens I bought off him a while back, and still have no intention of replacing it, it does the job perfectly for me! (thanks for the touching comment Ian!) in fact there was a guy there with a huge pap style lens who was jealous of that little tele lens I was using as I could poke mine through the fence easier to get a better angle on the wolves!

I was also using my newly purchased manfrotto 679B monopod, which came in very handy.

Aha! I have just agreed to purchase a huge Manfrotto tripod and head off Danny (he's relocating to Hong Kong and is selling much of his gear that isn't really worth shipping there) - and at a bargain price too

In fact, Danny - why not put some of your items on our for sale and wanted board?

Not after a new camera, but I am after a flash, and potentially a macro lens for the canon (350D).

The 3rd one is outstanding to me. Majestic pose and, what looks to me like, a smiling face.

Re: A Few from the Wolf Day

Ben, IMO these are some of your best Wolf shots taken. The position you have managed to get yourself in, lower down than the wolf looking slightly up has helped too. The animal becomes dominant almost threatening at times.

The limited DoF also helps isolate the wolf as I'm sure was your intention along with the nicely done vignette in the third shot. I'm often not a great fan of animal shots, esp ones in captivity but these look more natural and at home in this sanctuary.

Re: A Few from the Wolf Day

Fabulous beasts and you're so lucky to get the chance to see them, photograph them and, I hope, stroke or at least feel one one or two of them.

#1 - wonderful dof with the wolf standing clearly against that lovely backdrop

#2 - I love his pricked up ears, the way he has his eye on you and his 'schnozzle' to the ground as he sniffs and peers from behind the tuft of grass. Awww - he wants a titbit.

#3 - Beautiful pose, composition and dof - superb foreground with the 'grass podium' for the 'trophy' wolf to stand on for the winner's photocall.

Re: A Few from the Wolf Day

Ben - I can't remember whether or not I ever mentioned the work of Tanja Askani in here. She's involved with the Wolf Programme in Germany and she's also published (German text) articles about them, though I forgot where they were published. I'm not sure if she, or maybe her close friend, works 'hands on' with the wolves but she usually has a few photos on the web, either in Photosig or on one of her other sites.

I'm a fan of her animal and wildlife work - she seems to have a very special and unusual way with animals and it's reflected beautifully in her photography. I think you'll like what she does too - she elevates 'the aaaah factor' to a whole new level.

Her home, in rural Germany, backs onto a large forest and animals roam freely and also come into her garden. A year or two ago she rescued an orphaned/injured fawn and nursed it back to health in her garden. It was befriended by a wild rabbit and she has some amazing photos of the Deer and the rabbit playing together or curled up sleeping together. Some of her shots are in the wild - others are from a nearby Reserve and sanctuary.

I am not sure whether I appreciate that site or not Pol, makes me realise how far I have got to go

Beautiful work and I appreciate you posting that website, her shots of wolves are awe inspiring, thats one site I have bookmarked!

The raptor shots are amazing, I love some of the lighting she has used.

                              Many thanks for sharing that!
