  • Lens Flare

This shot has a lot of lens flare because it was taken against the sunlight.
What I want to know is does it work as a picture ?

Hi Ken, I kind of like it - it's a personal thing. My main concern is the blue cast on the swans.

Like Ian say's, it's always going to be a personal thing.
I don't like the unatural looking colours that the flare has created.

I'm sorry but I am non too keen on the unnatural colours either. It puts me in mind of those acrylic paintings which appear to glow. However, I think the top right quarter with just the bridge and the tree is appealing, even with the circle of light.

I think that the saturation is too great, but I don't mind the lens flare. It makes a rather surreal picture. A bit enchanted.

i like the fairytale look to the image...works for me. the large flare above the water looks like the bubble in the wizard of oz that carried the good witch of the north

ok, going back to sleep now.

More accurate colours on the new version but for reasons I can't really put my finger on, I prefer the original!

There is a cheap plastic camera that's all the rage at the moment, and it produces images just like this. Photoshop have also done a tutorial on how to mimic this style of image. I quite like the original for its colour and fairyland appearance. I also think the composition works well too. Was it your intention to produce an image like this, or was it something of a surprise to you when you first see it? Go to the link for more info on the Lomo camera affect.

I won't knock 'em Ron.. I owned a couple of Zenits in my younger days and always wanted, but never got round to buying, a Zorki 4 or FED 5 rangefinder. When I went 6x6 the object of my desire was a Kiev 60 but I had to "make do" with a YashicaMat!

In a recent(ish) thread with Yoshi I was surprised to find Russian cameras were / are big in Japan. I've often thought of getting a collection together via eBay, might do it one day.

Collection I seem to be doing just that. I have just recently been given a mint canon EOS750 with Sigma 28-70 lens, plus an Olympus OM10 with three lenses. People say "your in to cameras, would you like this" and I end up unable to say NO! What the hell I'll ever do with them I don't know. Ebay sounds like a good way to give them away.
I showed my son the Canon this weekend and he held it up in front of my grandson and said "look a real camera".
