    Re: Homeless snail

I do apologise on behalf of my better half if you were in the middle of your tea when you saw this

PS Julia is complaining that my 50mm (100mm) macro lens isn't powerful enough, so I'm adding a set of extension tubes to my shopping list.

Actually that did rather take me by surprise and make me feel a bit queasy.... mind you the Nando's "hot" steak at lunchtime may have had something to do with it

Sharp intake of breath followed by , that's the nearest I can find to a "yuck" (and that's putting it politely). Having once stood on one with bare feet it squished between all of my toes - stuff of nightmares I tell you!

          Re: Homeless snail

Is it really a snail, or maybe a slug?

My first impression was that it a sweet or maybe a cake or some other little tasty bite and that you'd put the end in a small amount of water to give the impression of a snail trail.

It looks quite tasty to me actually.

I suppose yer gonna tell me it really is big fat slug now. If so - tell me sometime next year or even next decade.

            Hi Pol,

'Fraid it is a slug - or rather 'was' as someone stood on it this afternoon. I decided against putting a picture of the result up

OMG Julia.....that an ugly critter! I find slugs quite revolting at the best of times.
Snails i can appreciate for their funny retractable feelers......& I do have a liking for escargot, poached in white wine & garlic, topped with a beautiful cheese au gratin!! But that thing.....ughhhh! Actually, them thar blasted snails chewed all the leaves off my new aquatic plant I'd had for precisely 1 week, that cost $24.....so at the present time...I'm not too fond of the common ol' garden snail somehow!

I really did think it might be a sweet - like the sort of 'crunchy/candied sweet peanuts' boiled sweets we used to get as kids. I have to admit I've never noticed slugs wearing red skirts like the one in your picci.

But y'know what ....... I rather like this picture. The slug could possibly take a touch more sharpening. Separate it from the background and just sharpen the slug. You might also find the separated slug could take some slight curve adjustment to pick out the contrasts in the texture ... then treat the background separately with maybe just a quick auto-contrast (no added sharpening for the background (just the slug).

I often process the subject separately from the background (using layers). I tried those adjustments myself and it makes the creature 'pop' just a touch more (sorry for the choice of words ... ie popping the slug)

BTW - David says he prefers his slugs with salt. I'd already noticed that when he goes out finding and 'seasoning' them late at night or very early in the morning.

'snot' a nice sight served with salt! But its the best method for elimination methinks!
