    Re: First Post here

Hi Andrew, thats a helluva first post There seem to have been a lot of views but no comments, and this is probably because you have given people too much to comment on. If you would like honest critique its usually best just to post one image. Five is just too much to consider all at once

Anyway, briefly I'll just run through them. I like the first one for the road leading the eye across what appears to be a parched land. This contrasts with the deep blue of the sky. However IMO there is too much sky, and you have split the picture 50:50 land and sky. From a compositional point of view its best to use thirds generally. Also if I'm honest I feel the shot should be sharper, though maybe the reduction has not helped here.

The second shot does nothing for me, its just a row of 3 tug boats, and cropping the top and left side hasn't helped. Perhaps this is one of those shots that means more to the photographer who was there.

The third shot I like for the curve of the wall and the colours, however I feel tempted to want to correct the verticals on the left, but thats just me maybe

The fourth is a lovely colourful flower, though I'd like to have seen it out of the shadow. The out of focus background has some sun and somehow pulls my eye away from the flower

The last shot I also like but as with the first there is too much sky, I can't help feeling that their would have been potential in the original colour shot, where the textures and colour of the facade would contrast with the sky.

Stephen has said what I would have - it's an impressive collection; apert from the boats.

      Loads of potential there

Thanks so much for the input. It is refreshing to hear some honest opinions about my work. Im an amateur, that was VERY active in college, 35mm, 4x5, etc... and the 'old school' film (the first time around I was a photo major, but never finished).I have been a little out of the loop for a number of years (life happens, careers go different directions... you know.

But, now with a new digital slr, I have decided to give this another go.

Next time, Ill only post one at at time.

        Thanks again

As previously said, some have good potential! To me though, a couple are oversaturated, but that is just my personal taste! I do like the curved wall however, with all the colour! BTW welcome to the forum as a newbie!
