Oooo I do, I do! You just have to marvel at the way his mouth is perfectly designed so he can shove it flat against the grass for a good chomp.

He looks like a sculpture of wet clay that's been left out on the lawn to dry in the breeze. You've captured some nice textures and skin folds there.

        Hi Coupekid,
A super image, full of detail, However it does appear a little on the dark side on my friends monitor which I am sitting at, and could do with a little added contrast (Punch)? never the less a super capture.

Certainly do like it Ben and it's the closest I've been to one. I'm wondering about the mono here though as I feel rhino, while not actually blending into the background, might stand out better in the colour. Hard to know though without seeing the colour, so I could be wrong.

Lovely shot, but I do agree with wanting to see the colour version as this would really show up the mud/clay caked on its skin! Must be a square lipped, white rhino!

              Re: The Rhino

Well, thanks for the all feedback, and as requested, here is the original colour version, exactly as it came out of the camera.

Personally, I prefer the mono version as it accentuates the textures. In the mono version I have also added a slight vignette, tweaked the levels and curves and slightly sharpened.

But what do you think, and do feel free to have a play with the image to illustrate if you feel the urge!

I like the colour version better meself. He (she?!) looks like (they ) are smooching the ground

They are amazing animals and while they can be very bad tempered, I think you have captured the sweeter side of their nature!

Nope, I still prefer the mono version, color seems to get in the way in this particular image.

Great shot, B&W works much better.

                      Re: The Rhino

thanks all, interesting to hear what people think on whether its mono or colour.

Personally, I converted to mono because the focuses more on the texture of the skin, but I can certainly understand why people prefer colour.

Ugly brutes aren't they? But the white rhino is relatively docile. Unlike the blacks!!

I prefer the mono and I think the vignetting works well on this picture.

I go for the mono as well. Makes his hide look more detailed and leathery
