    Re: Evermore I & II

    It seems that the general consensus here is that the first image is the better due to a more active foreground, and a straighter horizon; however there is some debate to whether or not these photographs are 'art'.

    I personally consider all photos I take as artwork, as I don't just take a snapshot, but I try and introduce elements of photography into my images, e.g. Rule of thirds etc. As Ben said, Stephen and Ian have infinitely more experience in photography than myself, and I think it would be stupid of me to question what they feel about the photographs. Then again, i've always been stupid.

    I'd like to know from both Ian and Stephen what they feel I could add to the photographs in future to produce a better image?

    @Stuart: Thanks for your feedback

    Thanks again,
    Matt

          To convey more drama or emotion, you would need to introduce something more unusual and striking. This could be a more 'magical' lighting at maybe an earlier or later time of the day, or a particularly unusual angle of view. Or a part of the scenery that is out of the ordinary.

            Matt you will learn the answer to that one when you see it, you can't be too prescriptive about these things. Look at photographs on photo sites on the net. Check out places like Photosig.com for example. Look for examples of good practice and excellence and some of it will rub off on you so that when a picture presents itself to you, your response produces a better result.

              I can see a good difference - the original is like 'royal blue' Parker ink for fountain pens and the sky in my version is more like 'blue black'

              Ian

              PS Looks like 'Royal Bue' isn't available any more

                Re: Evermore I & II

                Hello Matt
                I like the composition in the first one and don't feel that the portrait format has done any damage. The colours I feel are not too bad in this one but in the second they do look very artificial.

                  I prefer the 1st shot, however - I would've brought the rocks in foreground closer to be of more interest. What does make the first pic better for me is the layers in the composition! Foreground....middle distance & far distance. I think by chosing Portrait , this is enhanced!
