  • Early apples

This was taken the evening light at the weekend and I like the dusky darkness of it, but do you think it's maybe too dark?

From a technical aspect, this was shot at f/1.4 using a Panasonic Leica Summilux-D 25mm f/1.4 (50mm in old currency).

I would have prefered a little bit of the table behind the apples in focus as well. But you know me by now, no idea. The mood of the picture does sort of reflect the summer we've had though.

Ian, the photo looks completely different in CS3, so I can only assume that any darkness you perceive here is down to the browser. By way of comparison I have tweaked it a little, take it or leave it

The image is just a test shot to demonstrate the limited DPF achievable at f/1.4.

Here is the same scene taken at f/2.8 and a bit lighter:

Ooh yes - it looks much darker online via the browser than in CS3 (or the Olympus Studio RAW conversion software I used).

Curiously, in the second version I have just posted, there is less difference between the original and the web view

            Re: Early apples

I quite like this photo, Ian. And unlike Paul i'm liking the DoF, it seems to create a lovely surreal feel to the image. I must say though that I prefer Stephens edit of the photo, the colours seem far more vibrant.

            Good work,
            Matt

How does that song go again....'you can touch me apples....but don't touch me plums!' I find it slightly offputing that the immediate foreground of the table is extremely sharp & immediately very blurred to the right & directly behind the fruit! It looks a little too contrived without the transition between sharP & blurred! (Oh I think I was looking at Stephens edit maybe)
