    Re: owl

Lou, this is a cute little owl! My suggestion to you would be to concentrate on your composition in photos! Make your subject the focus. In this pic the first thing you notice is the foliage & then the bird, as it is placed too far to the left.
The fact that you got direct eye contact is great!

      Re: owl

      Hi Lou,
I agree with Jocelyn re composition - the foliage to the right is definitely in competition with the bird. Also, were you hand-holding the camera? There appears to be evidence of camera shake. Your exif data shows 200mm focal length, 1/320 at f8. I am certainly no authority, but maybe increasing the aperture to say f4 would have given you a faster shutter speed to at least 1/500. I seem to remember the golden rule for hand holding is that the shutter speed needs to be at least twice that of the focal length for most people. The larger aperture would also render the background more out of focus. Good attempt and nice lighting though.

You seem to be stuck on a landscape version. Here is a portrait version plus a few tweaks.

lovely shot, I wont dwell on the critiquing it, but suffice to say that Ron has done exactly what I was about to suggest in terms of composition.

I did very little really. Adjusted one end of histogram (black point) added a little saturation and a bit of sharpening. Do it in that order as it is important to sharpen last.
