  • Fireworks picture

Hi, I have uploaded fireworks pic from Putrajaya International Fireworks Competition. The display was from Australian team. I managed to shoot about five clear fireworks diplay. After that, the sky was filled with smoke. It looked more like a war zone than a celebration zone.

However, I managed to upload only two photos, my space is full

Please feel free tp leave comment. I am still learning how to take fireworks photo.

First of all Ian did a short article on firework photography
Secondly I'm sure more gallery space can be sorted out if you email Ian, however I notice looking at your gallery that many of your shots have quite large file sizes and this is obviously using up your space unnecessarily. I usually find that scaling images to around 800-900 pixels along the longest side and creating a filesize of around 250kb usually gives a good result. In Photoshop saving at level 9 or 10 gives you that sort of filesize.

Now I like your firework photos and I've looked at your Blog and seen some of your others in B/W

With the one you have posted here I like the fact that the illuminated bridge and the people in the foreground add lots of other interest, the firework burst fills the empty space beautifully. This kind of begs the question, is it a firework shot or a night scene with fireworks

I feel the photo is spoilt somewhat by the what looks like a netball goal in the foreground and the glow of the city lights in the sky.

I wonder then if you were to have your camera on manual, put the shutter speed on a similar setting or longer but reduce the aperture. This would record the streaks and brightest lights, but make the sky darker as less light would have reached the sensor during the exposure.......................................... ......... Well it makes sense to me

Lovely shot, but in my opinion, you need to just tweek the levels to get that black sky back.....see attached to see what I mean.

I agree with what stephen said regarding the gorground obstruction as well, its so easy to not think to much about composition when faced with spectacular displays!
