Snatched a few shots this morning through the Glass of our patio doors. I could not open the door or they would have flown off. Had five all at once, but impossible to get good shots with so many feeding together. Here are a couple of Tits that posed for me.
That's a nice shot Ron, especially through glass. Good sharpness and catchlight on the closest bird's eye and you managed to get all the tail in on both birds which is a plus.
I had a strange experience yesterday afternoon when a flock of about 14 long-tailed tits suddenly appeared on my greengage tree. I don't recall ever seeing long-tailed tits in my garden before, so it was a bit of a surprise. They stayed there for about 5 minutes, made quite a racket and appeared to be feeding on something and then they were gone, almost as quickly as they'd appeared.
Unfortunately I was sitting in the summer house with doors open and a good view of the birds but without a camera . I knew if I left to go and get the camera they would all fly off so I decided to sit and watch them instead.

They do seem to move around in flocks. We never get just one or two. As you say they don't stay long so you have to be waiting for them. This was the third visit this week so did have the camera ready. Only problem was my cooked breakfast was getting cold but I was not going to miss getting as many shots as I could. 50% turned out keepers.

It's a lovely shot. The composition is nicely balance by their tails too. You've trained them well.
great camera, i have the fz5 & have good fun with that, although i have a Nikon d40,i mostly carry the fz5 as it,s size is so convenient compared to the dslr & much simpler to use.
You're very lucky to have so many comimg to visit. They're such cute little birds. We rarely have them here for some reason, though we do see them high in a neighbour's tree occasionally. We only had them visit once, high in the plum tree. We didn't get any shots and they never came again.
One thing I forgot to mention .... the RSPB and others recommend removing the mesh from the fatballs as it can sometimes cause injuries to small birds and other wildlife. Birds can and do somtimes lose or break legs or claws on the mesh.

Yes we do remove the mesh but these two fat balls had started to break up as they had been at the bottom of our feed box. We decided to put them in the holder like that this time so they did not end up as pigeon food.
For some reason these long-tailed tits visit for a few days then it's weeks before we see them again.

Aye it can be a nuisance when the occasional fat ball breaks. We sometimes just finish the job, break it up properly and dump the bits on a bird table or on the ground for the ground feeders.
Feral Pigeons are my pet hate!! I scare them away with wooden football clackers, water pistols or a hosepipe spray. Visiting cats get the same treatment.

To be honest Pol I like the Pigeons to come to the garden. They do clean up all the seed that the other birds spill out of the hanging feeders. With out them cleaning up the lawn would look like a corn field. Fat balls get attacked by the squirrels and a lot does get left on the deck for the ground feeders. We try to give them all a fair chance to feed and vary the types of food we put out. We are close to farms and get a few field rats on the scrounge for food so try to keep food of the deck if we can.
