I've not seen the original and I wonder if Web viewing is doing this one justice, but it looks quite heavy and dark on my screen (recalibrated this morning).

Hi Patrick,
I like the tone of the images, but i find the first one hard to define with the tree and the wall both being what i would call broken subjects. If i had to name a favourite it would be NO3. It looks like a place of good photo opertunities.

I did feel that this one was on the heavy side as well, but the more I look at it, the more I like it. There are lots of delicate tones in there. But there is a kind of adjustment period. Stephen and I were speculating as to how you processed it - desaturation, duo tone?

I's my favourite of the bunch and the light on the stonework of the bridge is great. Pity that nice house in the middle is not more to the left or right but we cannot have it all. The tone is very nice also.

Yes its quite dark and intended to be, thats the mood I envisaged when I pressed the shutter, it might not be to everyones taste I can accept that.
Hopefully as a print the dark image will work better than on screen. Even the darkest parts have detail, at least on my calibrated screen.

Shot in RAW with my old Canon 10D with the only lens I had with me yesterday a Sigma 24-70 f2.8 shot with 200ISO 1/180 @ f11
CS3,via Bridge converted to B/W in ARC, some cloning to remove floating rubbish, levels to adjust contrast, selective darkening here and there, selective lightening here and there, toned in my usual way in Hue & Saturation.

As you may be noticing I quite like darker images and I certainly like toned images.

PS would have used Lightroom but still don't like the library feature, having to import everything. I have a filing system I'm comfortable with and it doesn't lend itself to Lightroom, which in every other way I love.

For me the library feature is much of the power behind LR. The ability to import raw files with your own metadata and keywords attached is very good. Then to add individual keywords as you go is great

I am totally used to the system now, it was a case of adjusting my workflow for LR rather than the other way round.

Personally I have any real need for Keywords and such like, but then I'm not a professional photographer as you are.
