I honestly thought this ways a 'statue' artist in his make-up at first, but on closer inspection, he's clearly hewn from stone

Your composition doesn't obey the rule of thirds, but that rule isn't entirely obligatory. I might experiment by cropping off the right hand side to an extent.

    What do you think?

    Where was this taken?

The picture was taken at a sports stadium in Geneva, Switzerland. There is another view in my gallery.

Here is a crop of yet another view, is it better?

I think if you are going to crop closer, you need to get closer than you have. Just slicing off the top of the statue hasn't done much for me.

I still think just removing the right hand quarter or so will improve the first version a huge amount.

I have to agree with Ian. This is a far better crop. Ian is very busy so have taken the liberty of doing it as he suggested.

Thanks Ron, pretty much exactly as I would have done
