    Re: Cherries

Personally I think the excess grain is to much. My perception of cherries is that they have a smooth surface while these appear to have images embedded in them. Maybe that was the point of your photograph, if so then the title is misleading.
I find it a bit cramped as well. Cherries are a small fruit and these are filling the frame completely which again goes against my perception.
Having said all that maybe I'm missing something which will be revealed in other comments.

I will have to echo Pop's comments.

Kurt it would seem, having looked at other images in his gallery, has an artistic style to photography. This is in keeping with that style. I don't claim to understand this type of work, far from it. I feel this image was not the result out of camera, rather a more created image by use of software. I may well be wrong but that's how I view it.

Hmm I like it, nice colours, maybe do away wit the grain effect or is if lots of noise, maybe a good dose of Neat Image. Personally I find its an interesting picture or perhaps image, and the bold yellow and deep aubergine colour of the cherries is nice, with the boarder - it makes me think Cafe Art Dont take that as an offence!

            Re: Cherries

I think I must agree with Pops summary of the shot Kurt. I feel the cherries are competing too much with the frame, which they are squeezed into. Is this a crop of an original image, was it a high ISO available light shot. Would be interested to know how you took the image

              Re: Cherries

Well we all see it differently. I don't mind it. In fact as soon as I saw it I thought it was quite striking. I didn't particularly see it as a photograph, more as a picture.

My main criticism is that I would like the yellow surround to be equidistant at the top and two sides and definitely no less that the right hand side but preferably about half as much again. The bottom is OK.

I normally don't like fancy frames but I think this one suits the image which I feel has just been overworked.
I like the idea here and what you are getting at.

                  Re: Cherries

Thanks to all of you for looking and for all your interesting comments. I find it very pleasing that the image has had some interest. It was originally part of a bigger photograph which included much of the dish on which they sat together with some cherry stones and stalks - with plenty of space around the cherries. My original intention was to create a triptych so I took several from different angles and with the cherries together and separated. All were taken using available light with exposures of about 4 seconds and with a fairly high ISO, I guess, although there has been some post-processing to add grain. The reason was, as has been noted, the cherries are very shiny and in my view you no longer see the cherry but the reflections in them, even now you can see me reflected in them if you look closely. I would have to examine my psyche rather to closely for comfort to find out why I placed them off centre and tightly in the frame rather than dead centre so I can't answer that one . . . only to say that this is the position which pleased me after many alternatives. I created the image some time ago, but have recently bought a new computer so I am going through many old images and this is one that I was still happy with. Although I did start to create a triptych I quickly lost interest in it although I still have a couple of versions that I am unhappy with as I find it hard to throw away even stuff I dislike - I might change my mind tomorrow!

                    Re: Cherries

Interesting ...yes! A bit too much grain & a tad too contrived! Had either the cherry stalk on left or right been a little more 'haphazardly' placed instead of uniform, the from or border a little less pronounced...I could see it being 'a piece of art'!
