  • The Results of my first Wedding

Well, still waiting for CK jr to come.....so I thought I would post a couple of the more unusual shots from my first wedding which I photographed last weekend.

Of course I did the usual shots of family etc, but thought I would try a few shots to be a bit different.

    Comments very welcome!

The first one has generated a 50/50 mix of thoughts..... the missus doesnt like, the groom doesnt like it, the bride , myself, and a freind does.....
I was trying to generate an old fashioned feel, with a slightly 'bride dominating the groom' look. what do you reckon?

    Lord of the rings?

This shot was taken with a large print in mind, they chose to hold the reception at a golf course, which had a very picturesque bridge, so I thought I would take full advantage.

A slightly more close and personal shot on the bridge.

Thanks in advance for any comments!

Hi Ben - the ring shot is very nice - probably my fave. Did they like that one? The first is a bit odd - the bride doesn't look 'happy' - almost as if new hubby had done something wrong, is begging for forgiveness and she is kinda thinking about it

    I like the bridge shots.

Yeah, they loved the ring shot.

I was just experimenting with different looks, it needed to be a bit different.

I was kind of trying something contrary to the 'honour and obey' almost to turn it on its head, but it has definately generated different views. Funny how the bride liked it, but the groom didnt though, dont you think!

Ben the first one would have worked had the pose not been so awkward looking. The poor groom would not want his friends to see that photo. The second I really like. Seen and taken many variations of this shot but never one quite so refreshing. Third one nice picture but not doing the bride and groom any favours having them so small in the image. Last one I like much better.

OK, got a 5:3 ratio of dislike to like on the first one thus far then!

The 3rd one was for a large print in mind only, as I liked the whole atmosphere of the bridge, pool and sky. (I am awaiting an A2 sized print of that one, so the proof will be in the pudding as to whether it works on not)

the third one was my fave of the bride and groom.

The weather was a bit problematic on the day, and I was going to ask you pro's whether you think with harsh over head sunlight a polarising filter would benifit. Stupidly I tried it on some shots, but cant remember which ones!

I gues the other alternative would have been a reflecter, alas I didnt have one! Are there any other tricks you guys use to combat the problem?

I have attached a picture of one that didnt turn out so well (luckily the passing clouds saved me!)

It ain't that easy this wedding mallarky is it Ben

In the case of your attachment pic you really need to use some fill in flash for those shadows. Obviously the shadow/highlight tool in PS is going to help if used properly, my favourite is Shadow Illuminator Pro from Intrigue Technologies its an unbelievable plugin. Oh and I don't think a polarising filter would help a great deal

              no....your not kidding!

as it was such a harsh bright day, fill in flash would have limited me to a maximum of 1/200th second though, so it would have been difficult.

I used the shadow/highlight tool quite substantially on many of the pics, but luckily the main saving grace was the passing clouds

2nd and 4th for me for sure.
Don't like the pose at all in No1. There is also a patch of sunlight on the brides outstretched arm that doesn't look to good.
On the good side I do like the tint.
The 3rd one is more of a portrait landscape and the couple just don't feature in the shot.

                  Sorry Ben, make that 6:3!

It's actually quite a good pic of the groom, but the bride looks as if she feels uncomfortable.

The ring picture is my particular favourite, although I do like the 3rd and 4th as well - it'll be interesting to see how that 3rd shot turns out as a large print.

Overall, if this was your first wedding, you did a cracking job.

I've only done a couple: one where the photographer didn't turn up, and one I was asked to do for my ex-sister-in-law when she remarried. Now that was a nightmare - the weather was so cold and wet all the photos had to be taken indoors, and the only place for the bride and groom to sit was in front of a brightly lit window This was, of course, before the days of digital cameras, and me and my slr really struggled but the compacts didn't do any better!

Oh dear, he does look worried...and very submissive.

                    Love the rings.

Big print of the bridge would look great.
