  • Still Life

Bought my wife a pressy and couldn't resist having a go with it. It's hand sculptured floral display by Thomas Kincaid.

As you look the window is on the left and a large piece of foil is on the right.
Haven't got any fancy lights and the overhead room light caused to many highlights. Just put eveything away when I remembered I had an external flash which I could have bounced off the ceiling. Would it have improved the shot I wonder.
This one is at f8 and 1/4 sp

Early portrait photographers used to have their studios with a North facing window. It gave the best form of natural light for their portrait photos, soft and diffused.

I think your photos looks excellent Pops, and its obvious that natural and reflected light works well. The downside of course is the slow shutter speeds.

Bouncing the flash may have helped, but its also possible that it may have introduced shadow areas where there aren't any now.

Considering your set up Pops or lack of it, I think yiu got a very attractive result here. Yoy have brought out all the colours very well. I do think, however, that it is a little tight top and bottom.
      Excellent effort.

I'm not an expert on Still Life, and I won't pretend to be either, but even I can tell that this is a well carried out photograph! Through the method of your set up, you've achieved a very nice result indeed.

I cannot help think, however, that the image on the vase has faded slightly. Is this a result of the flash bouncing off the flowers in front, or simply a faded image on the vase? I'd love to see this restored digitally to bring some vibrance to the lower half.

Nice result - no doubt about that!

Tom has a point about it being just a tad tight top and bottom, more especially the bottom imo but it's no big deal either.

I wouldn't like to be charged with the responsibility of keeping those flowers dusted and cleaned though.

Thanks Tom, I'll keep that in mind for next time.

              Thanks for your comments Matt
The appearance of the vase image being faded is in fact the style of Thomas Kincaid which makes his work instantly recognisable.

Certainly not my job. In fact this as to be done using a blower.
Mrs L was on edge while I was doing the shots, so much so that I think it will be a long time before I can move it again

Could be as complicated as keeping the old sensor clean
