1. All my other portraits and street photographs are in black and white
2. Mali is dusty, don't expect that this was a shiny blue sky, it was just grey. In color this photograph does not really work.
Well, if mono's your thing then there's nothing wrong with that! I like to try it myself sometimes. You're right, I had assumed the sky would be blue - but I also assumed the clothing would be very brightly coloured.
I've just been looking at your gallery and I'd say you don't need much help - certainly not from me anyway
This is a very nice dynamic shot. The only thing I'd suggest is that the lady in the middle distance on the right draws attention away from the main attraction. Playing with cropping her out unbalances the picture so I'd be inclined to clone her out.
You have some great shots on your web site, I look forward to hearing your comments.
I registered yesterday and here is my first request for feedback (of course I am going to give feedback as well!)
Let me know what can be improved here.
Kind Regards,
Vinc
Hi Vinc, I have had a look at this a few times and it really reminds me of a low contrast B&W darkroom print - Ilford XP1 on Multigrade paper comes to mind! There are a lot of mid-tones, perhaps too much? It just looks very grey to me. But looking at the scene - it's a lovely and joyful collection of people. I agree that the lady in the distance is a distraction, but I personally think it adds a bit of perspective too.
I wonder if the grey dominance can be lifted somehow?

Hi Ian,
that is a valuable feedback! Thanks.
I tried to improve a bit:
maybe I am blurring the woman in the back that is coming too late a bit. Just to remove a bit of attraction of looking at that woman who is just not sharp.
