  • Stepping Stones

Taken last weekend, the water in the river is quite low, showing that we haven't had the usual rains. Any comments to better the photograph welcome. I have another in my gallery.

    Blithe,

What beautiful pictures! Both give me a relaxed feel. I love the angle of the one in your gallery. It is as if I could walk right into the picture. Well done and beautiful!

Lovely composition with the stepping stones on the diagonal leading to the path going up the bank under the boughs of the trees. Lovely shadows and reflections.

Very peaceful picture but just a touch too much sharpening for my tastes.

Yes, very good - but I like the portrait orientated one in your gallery even more. Where were these taken?

Both superb shots, and I agree with Ian, I prefer this one (and I am going to be cheeky and post your picture for all to see, hope you dont object)

I do feel the first one has been over sharpened very very slightly though, but as I said, both beautiful shots.

            Re: Stepping Stones

The first one is good but I agree that the portrait one is lovely. Nice low viewing point, good clarity from front to back and it's good that the line of the stones is carried through to the woods with the little path.
The brown peaty colour of the water comes over very well.

I agree about the 2nd shot. A lovely natural and peaceful scene. The lush colour of the foilage is very striking.

Thank you for your replies and comments.

It was taken on the River Irthing on the border of Cumberland and Northumberland, where I spent the first part of my life. It holds fond memories.

I certainly don't mind the other photograph being shown. I like the portrait orientation best too, although it does give a foreshortened view of the river.

With regards the over-sharpening, I'm usually fairly conservative about that and sometimes my photographs come out a little soft. I have noted the comments.

                  Re: Stepping Stones

On looking at your 1st pic, what came to mind was perhaps taking the shot from a lower position, showing about 2/3 as stream & stepping stones, then top 1/3 with foliage would work well. At that point I had not seen your 2nd pic, which I do prefer to a point, as I feel viewing the stepping stones slightly to one side would've had greater impact! Thats just my own opininion & the comment does not detract from the fact that its a great pic that has captured the serenity of the spot!

                    Hi Blithe,
I like your images a lot, they have a summery feel and atmosphere, The portrait one is my favorit, but the landscape would make a super Jig saw.
