  • Ted

This is Danny Chau's brother, Ted, taken in a restaurant one evening last week after a day at the show (Photokina) in Cologne. It's the original JPEG, with nothing done to it apart from resizing and some light sharpening. On my monitor the original is (pardon me for blowing my own trumpet!) - fabulous. The transition from the darkness surrounding to the skin tones and the detail in Ted's face are really nice. This was also taken using the built in flash of my Olympus E-330.

The original reason for taking this shot was to try to force some red-eye as I wanted to try out the in-camera red-eye correction feature. But Ted's eyes refused to cooperate! Apparently it's very difficult to force red-eye in chinese people's eyes?

    Shooting data - ISO 400, internal flash, f/4.5 @54mm, Olympus E-330, Digital Zuiko 14-54mm (28-108mm equiv) f/2.8-3.5.

And yet there is little separation between his head and the background, perhaps some PP would help with this.

Oh btw it looks like the sun is going down over his head and the moon has risen over his right ear lol

Yep, I realise there are some imperfections, but to me the strengths of the picture hold their own. I like the two lights - it shows this was not some kind of carefully posed shot; it's almost candid in nature.

The larger original on the screen isn't really done justice by the reduced size version displayed here, sadly.
