    Hi Pewidane

I am not technically very knowledegable about photography, but I know what I like.

As you are asking for a composition critique, normally, as I am sure you know, we try not to have a central object. However, in the case of your tree, for me it works. It acts as a frame for the buildings on the horizon and I think it looks very artistic.

I love the soft muted greens (not harsh) and other colours. My only criticism is for my taste, it is a little over sharpened.

Yes, Peder's crop is good - it's fine to crop hard in order to focus the eye onto the main form of subject you want to highlight.

The tree reminds me of a 'womping willow' from the Harry Potter movies (apolgies, Peder, if you haven't seen these movies!).

I would also agree with Audrey that there is some oversharpening or maybe over-processing and some halo effect is just beginning to creep in around the tree trunk, for example.

But otherwise, another fine picture from Peder - please have a look at his excellent gallery!

        Pedar,

It doesn't matter if you cut the tree the way you like it.
There are no standard rules of composing your subject and especially when it comes to personal taste

I find your photo being contrasty, a bit more bright given the partially sunny day and over-sharpened, according to my personal thinking.
So I tried to make a rework of it an here is what I personally think should be approximately.
