  • What does this Picture Say to You?

I saw this plastic replica of a cow standing in front of a Meat Market with a blue "coat" on it which advertised a local dairy. I purposely didn't capture the dairy logo. The picture seemed to be begging to be taken. I just am not sure what it "says"...I would like some feedback on that subject or any other comments you may have.

    Thanks in advance...

The thumbnail looked interesting but I was dissapointed when I saw it full size where it turned out to be (dissapointingly) a colourful plastic cow that looked more as if it was painted on the wall.
Had the large empty area included an extra dimension like an enchanted child or a surprised adult then we would have been talking business.

I love incongrious kinds of situations like this. It doesn't have to 'say' anything, but your picture certainly made me laugh.

The colours are appealing, but I'm not 100% sure the composition is as strong as it might be. But I am 101% sure I would have taken a photo if I'd been there.

I like this kind of semi-abstract photography, but like David, I think the composition could be improved. I'd probably line things up a bit more straight and get rid of the ground visible in the bottom right.

With it's startled blue eyes, to me the poor cow is saying 'yikes, 'd'ya think you could warm those metal hands first afore ya touch me bits?'

            Hi Dyvynl,

I can see what attracted you to the picture. I like the saturated colours but feel there's too much distraction on the right of the frame. The bit of floor and the door don't seem to add anything to the picture. The cow's head, around the eye, also looks a little out of focus. I think with some cropping a more striking image could be produced but it would be difficult to correct the softness.

As to your question "What does this Picture Say to You?", well, not a lot really. The fact that it is a "meat market" is not apparent from the image so for me this is irrelevant. To me the image is a reasonable stab at an unusual composition of saturated colours.

Re: What does this Picture Say to You?

Thanks for your feedback folks. For those of you who think that I should have cropped the "ground" out on the bottom right side of the picture I just wanted to give you some of my reasoning. I left it there on purpose just to give the picture some perspective. The cow is Life Sized and is standing on the ground. I tried several different crops and this was the one I found most suitable to convey its size. The cow is meant to look like it is looking around the corner of a building. I couldn't spend more time composing because I was standing in the middle of the busiest street in the downtown and had no more than a few seconds to compose and shoot before being run over. The cow only takes up the left portion of the frame because it was standing behind a street light which distracted from the composition. It was meant to be a whimsical and colourful shot at best and I think I captured that in the few short seconds I had to conceptualize, compose and shoot it. Thanks again...
